Biography Andrew Greenwood
As a dancer, choreographer and artistic director, Andrew has seen enormous changes in the way that the arts have been funded. With government subsidies slashed, and increased competition for the corporate sponsorship big theatre groups have had to drastically adapt, learning new ways for external collaboration and cooperation, and drawing the attention of a whole new public. In 2012, when a good friend was diagnosed with Parkinson’s, Andrew decided to put his love and knowledge of dance and movement to another use. He established the international foundation Dance for Health as its initiator and movement program designer.
Dance for Health is aiming to “change peoples’ lives “ by offering specific movement programs for people with physical and mental impairment, such as Parkinson’s disease and Multiple Sclerosis. In 2015 the program runs in 15 cities across The Netherlands, as well as internationally in Italy and Australia.
There is also an on-going collaboration between Het National Ballet (NL) and Medical University the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, which together with Dance for Health are conducting a medical research on the results of a specific movement program for sufferers of Multiple Sclerosis on the effect on the neuroplasticity of the brain.
My drive is change, upgrade and personalize the health industry by offering, accessible, achievable artistic based creative initiatives. My understanding a commitment to make change comes from my personal relationship with both worlds.
Andrew was a performing artist with, amongst other companies London Festival Ballet, Deutschen Oper am Rhein, Düsseldorf, Kölner Oper-Tanzforum and later Ballet Master with such companies as National Ballet of Portugal, Stuttgart Ballet, Finnish National Ballet, Ballet National Theatre Belgrade, Serbia, Volksoper Wien, Vienna, Austria Ballet, Ballet Cisne Negro, São Paulo, Brazil, Slovene National Theatre Opera and Ballet, Ljubljana, Ballet Rambert Company, London.
