During ISP in Prague we spent some time on practical classes of Body-Mind Centering with Anna Sedlačková. Later many students shared with us that it was in a certain way an eye-opening experience, but they were left with the question: how can somatic methods contribute to my practise as a professional dancer?
In this article Cathie Caraker, BMC practicioner who worked with students of School for New Dance Development (de Theaterschool Amsterdam), shares her view on the role of somatics in nowadays proffesional dance education: what can it teach us about own styles of learning, new specific movement qualities and how to approach the challenge of expanding of own options.
